So far We are doing well at preserving memories that we have made.  I have a great scanner that does most things.  It deals with slides (currently processing approx 4000 of those), negatives, and photos.  Pretty much everything except audio and video.  Matt has an audio tape player that he has loaned to me so I can digitize those (through a digital voice recorder I got).  The process is basic, play the tape through the audio recorder microphone in port and record, letting it run its course.  The one things that we do not have is a way to digitize video that is on old betamax or VHS tapes.  http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-ca-vhs-to-dvd would do this.  This link is only good for a few days after this post is made.

If you have anything that you want digitized I am able and willing to help out.  Just send me an email that is on the contact page.

So I haven’t posted in a long time, life started to happen so I had to take care of things.

As it turns out I am going to be going back to school to get a CGA designation. That is accounting. I am very excited however between going hardcore at school and working and general life I do not think I am going to have any time to maintain the blog.

I am hoping that someone will be able and willing to maintain the blog with updates and photos and stories and all the rest while I do my schooling. Someone central to the family, and who has the time most of all. Any takers? Email me or chat with me on Facebook.

I am hoping that the schooling will only be a few years but it may take longer. Cheers!

I have finished the scanning of the photos that I got from Grandma last week. They added almost 2000 photos to my collection. There has been a good mixture of photos. Weddings, Birthdays, Graduations, Newborns, trips and more good stuff.

I am now working on figuring out who is in these photos and for the older ones I may very well be posting some to figure out if anyone has any clues. As I had mentioned earlier Mike Scudder has been sending me a lot of information as well.

I am still doing some research, mostly to break the tedium of uploading and looking at over 3000 photographs. However by and large it has stopped. Thankfully I know 6 people working now on different aspects of the family, so they are always sending me information.

Also, if you have family documents or photos that you would like to get onto the wiki, you can do it in several ways. If you know how you can scan the document and send it to me via the contact page. You can also upload it yourself if you feel adventurous, it really is not that hard. However if you do not know how, we can always arrange for me to get the items and do it for you. You have my guarantee that you will get it back as you gave it to me. I have already borrowed a load of book , photos and documents from other people with no damage to the items. Lets preserve the family history while we can.

Also I have a good audio recording of a day with Myrtle and Victor. That will be hitting the wiki in a few weeks. Hopefully I start to do some more posts here soon, just to keep things going. Here is hoping that everyone is well! Keep checking back

Over the last few days I have acquired a massive load of findings that I need to scan, sort, upload, tag, input and otherwise deal with.  It is quite amazing actually.  I got about 2000 photos from Myrtle Hurford, and most of these photos are amazing.  They range from their house fire with the articles from the newspapers about them, to their new house that they have lives in for the past 50 years.  There are Photos of them and Myrtles relations in England, and a a few photos that are so odd that I couldn’t help but to preserve them.

I had also met another relation from that side of the family, Mike Scudder of Mission.  He has a wealth of information and photos that I was excited to see, he has more that I haven’t even seen yet.

Not only that but I got the archives for the Squamish Chief/Times from 1948 all the way to 1975, I just didn’t have the means to get the years of 1976 to 2001.

All of this is not including the approximately 5000 slides that my brother has gotten a hold of and is in the middle of scanning.

All in all, research may have stopped for the time being, cataloging and documenting is probably going to be the game this year.

The Wiki contains information on over 300 people, the oldest of whom are from the early 1700′s, that is over 300 years ago!  It also contains well over 1000 pieces of media, most of these are images and of those most are photographs, though there is a good amount of documentation there as well.  Ranging from Census sheets, to letters, wills, and ship passenger lists.  I still have probably another 2500 images that need to be uploaded!  And this is only from my branch of the family.

I would implore people that have images to please scan them and send them to me at hurfordgenerations@gmail.com.  If you do not have the equipment or the know how I am more than able to help out, we just need to arrange how to get the images back and forth.  Not just photos, I am currently working on negatives, and am able to deal with slides too.  Also Books of importance (Year books and things we are published in) I can handle and make into a PDF.

I hope people are enjoying everything in the wiki so far, and soon there will be more, much much more.  I have also been in contact with several relatives on different branches of the family, so the information that they may have could be very interesting indeed.

So this photo has 12 people, I think I know who 2 of them are, but I could be totally wrong.  The only thing I have to go on is the date up at the top, August 1960.  That if course is probably a print date, but the photo was probably taken around that time.

The only 2 that I think I have Identified is the boy in the top row, 3rd from the left, I believe this is John Hurford, son of Vic.  The other is the girl in the bottom row, 2nd from the right, I believe this is Janice Hurford, daughter of Vic.

Everyone else is an Unknown to me.  Who are they?

This photo is of 4 women.  The file name is L Verrier 2 sep 62.jpg.  This tells me it was from September 1962 but nothing else.  The 2 on either end look like they are in their early teens, the woman second from the left looks like late 20′s or early 30′s, and is the third woman in the picture Violet?  And of course with all photos, where was this taken?

So I have several projects on the go. Most of them involve the Family history. Today I am meeting up with Matt Offer to talk about what is going on and what direction we should be taking in our investigations. The wiki itself has over 300 people, and honestly that not nearly accurate enough for me. There are large gaps in missing families. If I simply take 6 generations (Me, Parents, Grand-Parents, Great Grand-Parents, Great Great, and Great Great Great – and yes we have information even going further back than that) we are probably missing more than half of the family if we go back down to living relatives. Now I am not necessarily hoping to get all of that done but I would like to fill in a number of gaps.

The wiki is for everyone to use and enjoy. It is not simply for people to have pages of deceased relatives there, it is meant to be a way to keep track of our history, ones gone past and new ones we are making today. We can make you a page for your trip to some exotic lands. We can make a page for the work that you do, we can make a page for everything really. If you want to do something and do not know if it is possible, email me. The worst that is going to happen is I will have to look into it to see how to do it. MediaWiki (the software the wiki runs on) is very versatile and we can make it do most things with a little work.

I am looking forward to the future of this site and project.

This is a set of 3 photos.  Obviously they are Fire Fighters of some kind, Forest or City?  The only other thing that I can say about the photograph is that it was probably taken in Quebec.  The names of the images them selves leave something be be desired too as they are simply Fire1, Fire2, Fire3.
